Take Note
One of the biggest obstacles piano students face is the loss of forward momentum. When a student makes little or no progress, it is often linked to irregular practice habits and results in discouragement and decreased motivation. Although some students look for an easier solution, there is no progress without practice. Please help your child to set a regular practice schedule. When practice becomes part of your routine you will notice the difference.

About Me
Serving Hawaii Kai for over 38 years.

Sometimes all it takes for music students to understand the material is an instructor who knows about student learning styles. Having worked with students in public and private schools throughout the State of Hawaii since 1985, I bring a depth of professional experience and knowledge to those who are eager to expand their minds, talents, and skills. I offer quality lessons at affordable prices. My business is not advertised, students find out about me from families who know me and are happy with their experience at my studio.

Below are portions of an email I received from a student on June 7, 2021. I love to hear from former students!

Hi Mrs. Uale! I was a piano student of yours about 30 years ago....I've been thinking about you a lot lately. I just completed some very rigorous coursework and passed 3 California state exams to have music added as an area of authorization to my teaching credential. The music theory stuff I had to learn was INSANE! .... I felt like I should've majored in music to pass those exams! I'm 100% certain that I never would've passed those exams without the solid base of music theory knowledge I got from you. Just wanted to reach out and say thank you for all that you taught me! ...I figured you must have a website, so I Googled you, and sure enough, there you were! I hope you are doing well and thriving during these crazy times! A.L.W.

Performance Opportunities
Recitals are held semi-annually. There are no extra fees for this activity and participation is strongly encouraged. Recitals give students a chance to develop performance skills, and the experience of hearing other students play is often inspirational.
National Piano Guild Auditions are held annually – usually in June at my home. Students studying piano are expected to set goals and memorize music (usually between two and ten pieces) to present in front of a professional adjudicator brought in from the mainland. Even beginner students and adult students should participate in this event as it helps them to learn what constitutes a perfect performance. Incentives for participation are certificates and pins from the American College of Musicians.
